Visible Mending & Simple Alterations

Do you have garments that are in need of simple repairs or alterations? This class will cover how to fix holes, add decorative stitching, or make simple alterations such as hemming. 

In the first part of class, we will discuss as a group what repairs/alterations each person needs to make and offer suggestions on what is the best way to do so. This may include demos by the instructor, if needed. Afterwards, students may be able to make those repairs by hand or by machine. 

Supplies & tools needed:

• Any garment you'd like to mend, embellish, or alter*
• Sashiko thread, embroidery floss, or Perle cotton, if hand sewing. Regular machine thread if mending by machine.
• Hand needle, preferably with a larger eye for easy threading
• Marking pen or chalk
• Ruler
• Scissors
• Options: darning egg or old magazines 

*Please note this is not a fitting class. Alterations will be limited to hemming and taking in/letting out side seams.
